Our Mission
Brown Sugar Ballet Company is Detroit’s home for Afrocentric Classical Ballet — a revolutionary return to our roots, where culture meets classical.
BSBC is the only ballet company in the world offering a curriculum driven by African drum–based technique and aesthetic, through the proprietary Adeyemi Method.
We honor Black stories, Black aesthetics, and Black bodies with a codified system rooted in African court-dance traditions and reimagined for today. We are proudly pro-natural hair, community-centered, and committed to academic excellence in the arts.
From toddlers to adults, recreational dancers to pre-professional artists, we train with grounding, rhythm, artistry, and joy.
